HistoryAnthony & Colleen Taylor have been dairy farming in the Te Kopuru region all their lives; until they ventured into Tourism. Anthony is the third generation in the area. In 1985 Anthony and Colleen Taylor purchased a 45 seater bus with a school bus run. Three years later the Government put all school bus runs up for tender, resulting in the loss of our bus run to NZ railways. Utilising our bus for charter work we saw the opportunity in the Tourism sector to introduce the world to the most spectacular, unexploited, historical and the longest drivable beach in New Zealand. In 1991 we opened the doors to an unforgettable adventure of a lifetime. Taylor made Tours was born and beach trips from Dargaville via Mahuta Gap onto Ripiro Beach began. The trips involve retracing the old shipping routes of yesteryear, finding their relics sprawled through the massive sand dunes, climbing 100m to the Kaipara Lighthouse for a rewarding view of the Tasman Sea and Kaipara Harbour entrance, sand tobogganing, surfcasting, netting and digging your own Tuatuas. In 1992 Anthony built a 25 seater 4 wheel drive Big Foot to cater for the increase in tourists, also for access from the Kaipara Lighthouse to Pouto Point. A new trip was also created involving a cruise on the Northern Wairoa River and Kaipara Harbour. Departing from the Dargaville Boating Club, Helensville wharf or Pouto Point – Joining Taylor made Tours for the beach tour As trips grew we became aware of the need to service not only the larger groups, but also the smaller groups and individuals, hence we purchased a 4 wheel drive 10 seater van. In 2002 replacing existing buses, we introduced a new custom built 6 Wheel drive 46 seater air conditioned coach. Our ultimate goals in tourism are to establish a market nationally, internationally and to replace existing vehicles with two 6 wheel drive 50 seater buses having an inbuilt bathroom and kitchen console. We focus on Ecotourism, ensuring the sustainability of our local resource. |
